Elmore Leonard sure could write, and the only thing he sure couldn't write was a good ending. To date, I've read about ten of his novels, and can count on one hand how many have had a satisfying conclusion. I don't need the full hand, either.
There's some interesting stuff going on here. A Butch Cassidy/Sundance Kid friendship. Social commentary, which is rare for Leonard. Some pretty fun characterization and dialogue.
But it seems, as in most of his novels, like he got bored and decided to rush the finale. Shame!
