Privacy Policy

lit.salon is a literary social platform. The service stores the account, shelf, writing, and community data needed to make the product work. Public posts and public profile activity are meant to be visible to other readers.

Data We Collect

  • Account data such as email address, Firebase user ID, username, display name, profile image, badge settings, and authentication state.
  • User content such as shelves, likes, follows, reviews, lists, quotes, writings, threads, comments, profile images, and images you choose to attach.
  • Search, browsing, and interaction data needed to show results, maintain product quality, measure feature usage, and diagnose performance.
  • Device and app data such as app version, platform, Expo push tokens, notification preferences, crash logs, and performance diagnostics when native telemetry is enabled.

How We Use Data

  • To authenticate accounts, keep shelves and social actions in sync, publish user content, and route notifications.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, troubleshoot errors, and improve reliability and performance.
  • To understand product usage through privacy-conscious analytics. We avoid sending raw post text, search query text, image URLs, emails, usernames, or display names in mobile analytics events.

Service Providers

lit.salon relies on service providers that process data for app functionality, hosting, analytics, diagnostics, and delivery. This currently includes Firebase, Google Cloud, Vercel, Expo, Sentry, and PostHog. These providers receive only the data needed for the product and operational purposes described here.

lit.salon does not sell personal information, does not use the native app for third-party advertising, and does not use mobile data to track users across apps owned by other companies.

Permissions

  • Photos/media access is requested only when you choose to attach an image from your library.
  • Push notification permission is requested only when you enable notifications in settings. You can disable notifications from app settings or the system settings on your device.
  • The native app does not currently request camera, microphone, contacts, precise location, or background location access.

Retention, Export, and Deletion

We retain account and user content while your account is active, unless you delete content yourself or request deletion. Some data may be retained for a limited period when needed for security, abuse prevention, backups, legal obligations, or legitimate operational records.

You can delete your account from the signed-in account settings page at lit.salon/account#delete-account. Native app users can open Account from the profile tab to reach the same deletion control. You can also request an export of your account data by emailing lowiqmarkfisher@lit.salon.
