If you've read any amount of history on mind control or MKULTRA I don't think much in this book will be novel to you. I want to say this would be a good introductory book on the topic but perhaps this is the limit of the topic since there really isn't much official or confirmed information out there.
I did appreciate that, although brief and limited, Bowart makes note of the Soviet ventures into mind-control technology. It is mostly in comparison to US attempts but there were mentions of specific experiments and technologies developed. The argument is made that alongside nuclear weapons and space programmes, mind control was also being fervently pursued by Soviets and Americans.
This is much more mainstream by a much less serious author, but I enjoyed The men who stare at goats as an early 21st century revisiting.
Ah I read the psychopath book by that guy ages ago because a coworker gifted it to me. I honestly enjoyed it quite a lot.
From reading the description I think he may be doing a disservice to the period. I worry that a person would read that book and come away thinking all the CIA research was just a lark of silliness. I may be wrong and I might check it out when I’m looking for a beach read though.
