Reads like an honest optimistic hopes from the former Venezuelan president from 70s, back when Venezuela was stronger economically. Now i should say i dont know how he was as a president, neither how much of the writings are true, but this was an interesting read, and gives me a glimpse of a hippie, peaceful world that promotes democracy in the 70s that we dont have now.

He talks about how Venezuela is a free nation, and whole Latin America should have a similar freedom. He adresses how the USA got super powerful and rich after ww2, and spends so much money on Apollo missions, and says "We hope that the Apollos will continue exploring space. But the result of these explorations make the need for a better life for men on earth even more urgent."

Furthermore, he talks about the social situations that led to ww2 as "We can inflame the spirit of the new generations towards the rescue of the idea of freedom. But freedom could suffer its most severe crisis if it is not nourished with the accomplishments of social justice. The scepticism of youth towards liberty during the decade of the thirties produced the intrusion of Fascism and Nazism, which threatened to raze the very foundations of our present civilization. We cannot allow our youth today to succumb to the call of violence and to the denial of the fundamental values which gave democracy its strength."

And finishes with the following: "On the other hand, we are absolutely certain that a new, vigorous and fruitful hemispheric relationship, inspired by the brave repudiation of everything that in the past obstructed the just norms for good relations, will have a great influence on world peace.

As democracy reaches its two hundredth anniversary, let us prove that it continues to be the best system of government. The best argument for it will be supplied by social justice, both internal and international, accomplished by democracy."

It is simply depressing to see the hemisphere he talks about is now openly claimed by the president Trump of USA, the Democracy™ is used as a weapon and created chaos that is still unsolved in middle east, led to opression and death of millions and generations, and as of this month led to the abduction of the crazy president of Venezuela. I am sure that Its easy to say we have went backwards as a society, but its damn hard for me to accept that the world is following the steps of exactly 80 years ago and we are still yet to see more chaos, death, blood and agony.
