Information theory is one of the most interesting and important developments of the 20th century. Decoding the Universe is a badly written, though earnest, survey of the theory's relation to cryptography, quantum mechanics, relativity, etc. It's a little ironic that writers of popular science seem to be allergic to precise language. There's a lot of wading through poor metaphors and vague phrasing, and all in all the book is a bore.
It did help me to understand why Qubits are useful, though, so it's not as though the information is totally uninteresting. I just feel like you can get better writing somewhere else.
