A fun and whimsical story about the self-duplicity of young love when face to face with plausibly deniable whorishness.

This is the first and likely only work I will ever read by Abbé Prévost, a French author who has since vanished into obscurity. My edition, which was translated by L. W. Tancock, features an introduction (written also by Tancock) that delves into the fascinating life of this on-again, off-again man of God and the internal war he waged between virtue and chasing them hoes. Definitely an autobiographical element to this one.
