Alfred Sheppard Dashiell was born on April 29, 1901 in Snow Hill, Maryland. Dashiell was a member of the Princeton University class of 1923 and went on to work for The Baltimore Evening Sun, New York World, Boston Transcript, and The New York Evening Post. He served as editor of Scribner’s and Reader’s Digest. Dashiell also wrote himself, producing several works including How Not to Write Short Stories and Editor’s Choice. He passed away on October 5, 1970.
