Can anyone recommend books for a bookloving 7 yr old girl? When I search Google or bookstores it's awash with kids books but some ive flicked through seem horrible. Ideally something that doesn't encourage not nice behaviours and isn't super manic

i work at a library. asia citro's zoey and sassafras series is pretty popular among that age range. it has cute animals and science. the owl diaries are ADORABLE and also beloved. i recently heard rave reviews about mercy watson from a mom with kids that age and younger. the ivy+ bean series looks cute but they seem mischievous. ALSO, patricia polacco has really great picture books for that age range. beautiful illustrations and they are slightly more mature than picture books for like preschoolers. i enjoy them.

little house on the prairie series is perfect, seven is the ideal age to start them

I loved Anne of Green Gables and The Secret Garden when I was a girl about that age.

Lots of great recs here. I have second dulla's recommendation of Roald Dahl, one of my favorites as a kid. I think Matilda and The BFG would be perfect for a seven year old. And just because no one has mentioned it yet, Redwall was my favorite series as a child.

Oh and "From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" and Louis Sachar's Wayside School books.

Like Yarb touched on below, kids from the age of 7–9 really vary in development. A few favorites of mine at around the age ranked very roughly in order of difficulty. Pippi Longstocking Roald Dahl's Books Moomin series Nancy Drew Mr. Popper’s Penguins Encyclopedia Brown Mr Limoncello’s Library Lewis Carrol's Alice books

7 was a formative year for me when it came to literature. Reading some interesting stuff at this age can really champion some cognitive development and intrigue in literature. Some things coming to mind: Nancy Drew (didn't read), Roald Dahl books (did read), Encyclopedia Brown (did read), Bridge To Terabithia (did read), Clue Books (did read), Series of Unfortunate Events (dark but profound, did read), and Goosebumps (to make it a bit spooky, did read).

Thank you! Going to note these down for future reference, i think some are a little too spooky or perilous for her but would be great in a couple of years

You mean chapter books, picture books or both? Seven is a tricky age. My first rec would be the Mr Gum books but they are pretty manic and kind of do encourage not nice behaviours which is what makes them so good for seven year olds...

Either or, she's able to read but still enjoys a good picture book. Mr Gum looks really fun actually, I might give one a read through to check it out more, thanks :)
