I read it last year. It's 100% in Morvern's Scottish vernacular voice ("mortal" = super-drunk, etc). It's a brilliant novel (and Lynne Ramsay's adaptation is an amazing film which manages to capture the essence of this unique character without resorting to voice-over). I still haven't read American Psycho (coincidentally rewatched the movie last night though) but I wouldn't compare Morvern to Patrick at all. Yes, she likes her tunes but she's not giving us spurious critiques of Phil Collins tracks.
