We have enough positivity in this site, need some negativity. Which book do you hate the most? Me, it's Blood Meridian. Reads like a fanfic. Something you'd find on wattpad. I tried really hard to read it but only completed about a third. Tried others McCarthy too, to no avail.

I respect and kind of like when people hate my faves, and it forces me to accept a certain humility about my certified awesome taste, but comparing Blood Meridian to the site where people write fantasies about members of BTS touching each others' peepees seems a bit contrived. But if I'm going to turn the camera back on myself, I would say The Hours actually does read like Wattpad spice.

A Confederacy of Dunces is a ghastly, vile, and agonizing book.

I mean I think Mccarthy is overrated but to call his writing the equivalent of something you'd find on wattpad is absurd. That said I hate Joshua Cohen.

And yet you complain "Spare me your pearl-clutching" when people on the site respond negatively. At least try to be consistent.

I struggled with the writing style a little at first, but you just have to let the prose wash over you instead of trying to picture everything that's happening during the story. This helped me through the first third, and I found the story really picks up after this, especially as the Judge starts to fill his role as the antagonist. I know you didn't ask for advice or encouragement or whatever but too bad.

My problem is not with the prose per se. I love Faulkner's prose, which McCarthy attempts to imitate. I dislike the novel in its entirety. The world in Blood Meridian feels so insipid; I'd compare it to Sartre's Nausea. I agree with you on No Longer Human, I also can't stand that book.

Truly I think the tone of the book completely shifts as you learn more about Judge Holden. But at the end of the day if it's not for you, then that's that. But yeah No Longer Human brought out a rage in me that I didn't know existed. All he does is complain and hate women. Whatever.

You tipped your hand too early with the Lolita review.

Nabokov is allowed to have unpopular opinions (read his journal reviewing other authors) but as soon as I say something a little bit out of the norm people start freaking out. This is starting to feel like Goodreads.

Lol I agreed with you about Nabokov in your thread. Goodread these nuts.

My apologies then. I thought that by your initial comment you were implying that I'm a troll and thus my opinions should not be taken seriously.
