I think so! Visceral and intense and uncomfortable is the point. Not for everyone, natch, but a wee snoop reveals that you're into Henry Miller and Carmen Maria Machado, and I think if you can handle them, I would imagine you would be able to handle Selby. Is there something in particular you're struggling with?
