I didn't know anything about the book when I picked it up, took me a few stories to realize this wasn't a novel, but a collection of short stories. I was able to confirm this by looking at the back cover. I felt a fool trying to make sense of it all but the stories are simple and beautiful and profound and I hate when people trash Hemingway. Maybe I'm a pseud, but I love him.
The first story in particular is five pages and says 80 different things about life that I could spend a whole day pondering. There are little moments, like a young married women longing for a cat to entertain her if she can't at least grow out her hair and buy a whole new wardrobe. I love this idea that she is made to feel small yet great. There is something about male writers that can speak so truthfully about women that makes me adore them. I wonder who are the women that can speak accurately about men? Maybe Hemingway isn't the best example anyways, I always think of Ingmar Bergman's female characters.
