Remebering

I think perhaps I always forget what Didion is capable of.

I wanted to reread this before passing it off to my flatmate, to be sure I had remembered it correctly, to confirm that when I had said Didion will introduce you to a new version of California, that it was a true statement.

I forgot how palpable her descriptions of place were, despite her —at times— sparse and distanced prose style.

I read this on a train ride from Chicago to Sacramento and it was really enlightening.

I read it for the first time a couple months ago. Fantastic prose. A few of the essays I wasn't too big a fan of, tbh, but the majority are fantastic; after finishing it I immediately went out and got a copy of *The White Album*.
