To this date this is one of my favorite books that I've read. Everything in the book is so accurate to surgery, including the years of research, divorce for a semi-narcissistic higher calling, the painful deaths, the embarrassing sentimentality thinking about the saves and losses. While lots of it is probably pretty outdated with regards to current transplant practices, the emotional core of surgery and it's toll and glory remains true to this day. Plus it inspired cutting for stone which is pretty cool
