Charming collection of short stories, very loosely linked. I've read a fair amount of similar Japanese fiction from a similar time period or covering similar themes (Sayako Murata's Convenience Store Woman as well as Mieko Kanai's Mild Vertigo) but this book charges the same kind of feeling of ennui and misanthropism with a more out-there sci-fi influence. As said before a lot of stories but there's a common theme of youth culture (through nightlife. rock music, drug use), heroines isolated from society, grimy cityscapes, alien mania. Just comes together in a really charming package, frequently pretty funny as well.
