It's an interesting book because while it doesn't directly reference other surgeons and focuses on Minnesota, you can see the origins of the giants of 20th century surgery in the book. The dramatic scene of cross circulation with resulting stroke was witnessed by later legendary surgeons Thomas Starzl and Denton Cooley, and other figures trained at Minnesota who would eventually go on to perform heart transplants and start programs including Christian Barnard and Norman Shumway. By itself it's an okay book but combined with the other books they offer lots of insight into how close knit the surgical community was.
