Dont get me wrong, it's worth reading but it is a long haul of depressing statistics and indictments of capitalism's destruction of the oceans. Guy Standing goes to great lengths to detail the wholesale destruction of ocean environments and the relatively feeble attempts to reign it in. Anyone with a passing interest will learn something, but be warned that it is not cheery reading by any means. As I seem to find with any discussion of solutions and alternatives to present political economy problems, the proposals made are much more slender and abstract compared to discussions of the problems faced. Sign of the times?
