Tour Guide Camille

In Glittering Images, a tame Camille Paglia takes you on a journey through art spanning antiquity to today. She offers concise, erudite, yet accessible commentary on 29 different works of art and the movements they represent.

As someone who doesn't have a background in art but likes looking at pretty paintings in museums, I really appreciated the accessible nature of the book. It made learning about art history very interesting.

It's sort of like a small coffee table book but with academic rigour. The images are beautifully reproduced on glossy paper and the commentary for each work is only about 3 pages long.

If I had to pick my favourite artwork in the book it would probably be At the Café by Édouard Manet.
