It's a good book on transplant surgery and brings up some uncomfortable questions about transplantation. The most memorable part for me is asking medical students on whether alcoholic cirrhotics should be allowed livers, then bringing up that the relapse rate for alcoholic liver transplant recipients is 20% while for hepatitis C the relapse rate is approximately 100%. Should resources be allocated based on efficacy or who "deserves" it more? Also loled at the young white girl being temporarily shocked at how black her donor was. Hopefully if MGH and U Maryland get their xenotransplantation act together it'll be a interesting lense into the past barbaric world of human to human transplants.
