I recently took up learning Greek quite lazily so most of the jokes are not available to me, but it’s still a funny play. I like that Aristophanes takes a break in the middle of the play to complain about the poor reception of the play itself. I think movies should do this too. Also that in Ancient Greece it’s cool to have a big ass and a small penis but not cool to have a small ass and a big penis. I’d also like to thank the translator of my copy (a recent Loeb) for translating καταπύγων not as “lewd man”. Put a big smile on my face.

The prim, Edwardian Loebs are delightful. My favourite is their old edition of Juvenal where Satire IX opens, 'What have you to do with the look that Ravola wore when caught playing that dirty trick with Rhodope?' The Latin reads '...when caught grinding away at Rhodope's crotch with his sodden beard'. If you ever want Greek lessons, hit me up. I taught it for 12 years before packing it in in favour of the obligatory fake email job.
