Would I ever again dedicate an entire school year to dissecting the Aeneid and De Bello Gallico, dactyl by dactyl, spondee by spondee? Probably not. Am I grateful that I did? Of course. It's hard not to feel the sheer scope of these epics, especially when you take the time to immerse yourself into their worlds. If anything, knowing Latin and reading these critically in their original language soured me on translations of non-English lit. Versed in Latin or not, everyone should read Roman lit at least once in their lives.
