Overshadowed by ending rant

Okay book somewhat stimulated but also undercut by the very last chapter where he talks to a hypothetical foil of a ob gyn where he complains about changes in attitudes between generations of surgeons. While it's not particularly convincing in the depiction of newer surgeons emphasizing work life balance rather than a calling, the discussion itself is interesting in highlighting an active controversy on how far someone should take their job as a sacred duty and calling versus a career where you get to work on interesting problems. At the very least it's a discussion that's nice to turn around in my head while I wait for a CT scan to tell me whether we'll be coming back in the middle of the night to fix a complication
