You know that meme of the ogre reading Ulysses? That's very much how I feel after reading this.
Fisher's work is, for the most part, extremely approachable. He does an admirable job of writing to the semi-masses, even while he's playing with heady ideas. A few of the later essays get a little too academic, and in some cases are borderline frustrating, but on the whole, this is a well-written, well-wrought, well-thought work of philosophy.
One note... Fisher brings in, and shits on, a few things that most people would regard as beneficial to society. Among them are museums and weight loss. He is right about it, of course. He is utterly correct in his reasoning. But, Jesus, will the Left ever be able to fire a broadside without first shooting itself in the foot?
