Almost interesting in its portrayal of megalomania, but the very thing that makes this novel interesting also makes it dull: it's rooted deeply in the perspective of a madman, and once that perspective is no longer fresh, it becomes boring. The protagonist spends much of the book hopping from cafe to cafe, reading and writing and spectating, when he isn't wandering, panicking, running away. Much of this novel's narrative propulsion fizzles out in the back half, leaving it ultimately limp.

Stories written entirely from the POV of mad people or nonhumans are almost always rubbish.
