Glad to see recognition for her. The Nobel lit prize is one of the few big prizes of any kind in any art form that I actually put stock in (other than a few notable exceptions, Bob Dylan I'm looking at you), and it has usually gone to talented boundary-pushers. If that kind of headline-making respectability gets members of the reading public to pick up something as daring as The Vegetarian, then amen.

Excited for her and for Korean literature as a side-effect of the spotlight. At just 53 she's hopefully got a number of years ahead to expand her range of styles and themes. The extra support that will come from being a Nobel laureate should grant more room for experimentation if that's what interests her.

I enjoyed *The Vegetarian* a lot and I have a couple other books of hers waiting for me on the shelf. Glad she won and very happy for her, although like literati below, I must say I do prefer when they give it to someone I haven't heard of.

I prefer when they give it to authors who could use the attention rather than mainstream ones. However, she’s a great writer and absolutely meets the criteria.

Ngl I didn't dig The Vegetarian but I'd be willing to try her other work
