Where should I start with this type of literature? Haven't read a lot of these authors.

Just from looking at the site favorites Slaughterhouse-Five, Catcher in the Rye, and Picture of Dorian Gray are the most accessible and shortest I know. https://www.lit.salon/salon?tab=topbooks

Did not even know that there was a top books tab. Thank you!

Tell us some authors you like

there's no defined category of genre that you're asking for but I understand what you're asking for. i would unironically recommend old 4chan /lit/ boards.

Stoner is probably the best singular recommendation I can give you though

I'm not sure I agree with this. I love Stoner, but 2/3 people i recommend it to found it meh...

Which type?

As in books/authors featured on this site instead of more mainstream stuff.

Oh, got it. Dworkin's Pornography, Pale Fire, The Waves, Invisible Cities are all great barely-niche books litsalon seems to like. I would say almost all authors common on this site are fairly popular, if not extremely so. This list has pretty similar taste in fiction. https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueLit/comments/197l37n/truelits_2023_top_100_favorite_books/#lightbox
