I don't have much to say about this book because, as a satire from a time I am unfamiliar with, it felt really light and remote to me. The rhythm of this book also took awhile for me to get into, especially because this is literally the oldest British novel I've ever read. Someone recommended this book when I asked around for books about reprehensible female characters and it didn't disappoint there. The contrast between the pining, confused husband and his callous wife was irresistible although somehow I completely missed the severity of the craziest thing she says in the book (I won't spoil the context but it's "oh, thank God"). I was a bit disappointed that said character didn't factor more into the story, but I did enjoy reading about the parallels between Tony and Evelyn Waugh's life. This book is very much not in the usual style of books I read, and I think I can only handle this type of book every couple of years because it began to grate on me after awhile. Even so, Waugh is definitely on my radar now...a conservative bisexual Catholic...
