read this in preparation for some upcoming non-fiction essay/interview/journalism stuff I am going to be doing soon, and wow - this really impressed me. didion's writing is the perfect balance between ironic and sincere. I love how skeptical she is of all these social movements. it's like she can see the collective hangover forming the moment the flower children put the bottle to their lips. you really get a strong sense of time and place with a clarity you don't see in other writing of the time, about the era. also, she can write a mean sentence. I plan on reading the white album and pay it as it lays asap.

The final scene of the essay about Vegas weddings had me floored. Haven't read the White Album yet but Play It as It Lays is also incredible
that essay is fantastic. i've already started the white album and i'm really enjoying it. so far it's just as good as bethlehem. i have play it as it lays on my shelf for when I finish that too.
