War has always been one of the drivers for innovation in medicine and surgery and this account is no exception. The book plays up the conspiracy parts which is mildly intriguing but the strongest parts are how a relatively simple idea (absorb water in blood so coagulation factors are hyper concentrated) became a lifesaving tool. It's an awesome book on the application of relatively simple concepts to save lives and I commend it on that basis alone.
