Interesting book on mass poisoning from nitrogen mustards and the evidence used to develop those chemicals into chemotherapeutic agents. Seeing the thought process behind the investigations shows the clashing interests of the military attempting a cover up versus medical personnel trying to decipher the disease and causes. Particularly striking though is the story of Rhoads writing racist screeds about poisoning Puerto Ricans by injecting cancer (later claimed to be jokes) after some thieves disassembled his car while he worked in Puerto Rico and how that letter lead to later nationalist Puerto Rican attacks, a straight line to online activists asking for Puerto Rican independence. It's a reminder that words particularly in certain positions are powerful enough to stir deep sentiments and internally justifies my politically correct phrasings.
