At first when I read this I was thinking that it was written with the intention of being extremely progressive towards women's rights, but since this was written o be a comedy and not taken seriously, I have yet to see if Aristophanes was using the theme of this play as serious or if it was something so absurd that you just had to laugh at it. Also i did read that women weren't even allowed to perform in greek theater so this would have been put on in an all male cast.
I think it's interesting but not surprising how in the year 411 BC in ancient Greece they had the same issues that we are still having today. I ded read that in Liberia in 2003 a sex strike by the women there was used to end the civil war. Through history you can look at different races, religions, genders, nationalities but most things about human nature stay the same. I was inspired to read this when I heard about how in the United states there were some women who wanted to bring the 4B movement in south Korea over to the US. The one thing I will say is that a man writing female characters and on feminist issues always has to be taken with a hint of salt even as accurate and with as much good intention they must have. I do think that also goes vice versa, and even if you're not talking about gender, since you can't completely understand the issues of another group unless you are fully apart of it. I saw a comment on the post that mentioned this play. I thought the play was very humorous like the girls that were leaving and had to make up excuses especially the girl that was pregnant and tried using the helmet to mimic a pregnant belly. Also when Cinesias came back and Myrrhine was constantly going back and forth and giving him blue balls. I do wish in reality you could solve every world geopolitical issue like this. I do want to read more of Aristophanes' work after reading this.
