Very long but also very well-written. It has to skimp on certain details (we are talking about squeezing the story of a dauntingly complex, world-spanning conflict into 630 pages here) but is otherwise a richly detailed overview of a conflict which was inspiring, barbaric, and comedic in equal measure. The chapter on India was particularly enlightening for me since I'm sadly not particularly knowledgable about South Asian history
