It's a window into medicine in the 1970s and how poor the working conditions were for residents. I did a 33 hour shift (of my own free will) on Wednesday and felt like death at the end of it, so I don't know how they regularly did 36 hour shifts. Some of the rules are still insightful today although the landscape has changed with interventions tailored now to be more effective, requiring a plan if exciting interventions like internal cardiac massage is attempted.

Unfortunately as an incel though I couldn't really relate to all the sex described in the book.
